JSW Vijayanaga Metallics Commissions Ruhrstahl Heraeus Unit from SMS group
12/12/2025 - SMS group announced it has been commissioned to deliver a new Ruhrstahl Heraeus (RH) unit for JSW Steel Ltd. subsidiary JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd.’s (JVML) Vijayanagar Works Steel Plant 4 in Toranagallu, India.
The company said it is the first to combine an RH ladle rocker with fast vessel exchange. The combination allows for more production flexibility due to reduced exchange times, longer vessel lifetimes and faster grade changes.
SMS group said it will also install an on-top ferrosilicon bunker.
“The new 350-metric-ton RH unit with fast vessel exchange represents a step change in our production capability and grade flexibility. It integrates seamlessly into JVML Steel Plant 4 and maximizes our operational efficiency, while improving safety and maintainability,” said Nikhil Agashe, vice president of JSW Steel.
The new facility will produce various grades of steel for industries including construction, infrastructure, manufacturing, automotive and energy. The company estimates the machine will have a capacity of 3 million metric tons annually.
“This technology milestone underscores SMS group’s engineering leadership while offering clear, quantifiable benefits for our customer in terms of plant effectiveness, life cycle costs and safety,” said Christina Godolt, contract manager at SMS group.
