Kalyani Ispat Taps SMS group for a High-Speed Bar and Wire Rod Mill
02/11/2026 - Indian steel manufacturer Kalyani Ispat Ltd., subsidiary of Rungta Sons Ltd., has tapped SMS group to deliver a high-speed bar and wire rod mill for its Rajnandgaon plant in Chhattisgarh, India.
The new mill will produce rebar in diameters of 8–40 mm and wire rods from 5.5–20 mm. It was engineered to be environmentally friendly, without reheating furnaces, reducing carbon emissions and using induction heater technology. It will have an estimated production capacity of 500,000 metric tons annually, the company said.
The scope of supply includes a 10-pass finishing block, new crop and dividing shear, and high-speed delivery (HSD®) system. Newly designed water boxes are integrated within the HSD system. Technologies on the high-speed wire rod line include pinch rolls, a laying head and the loop cooling conveyor (LCC®) system.
The company said the mill will feature SMS’s advanced drive and automation technology. The software will allow for sequential mill control from the entry area to the bar and coil finishing lines. The diagnostics and digital analytical tools will ensure fully automated rebar and coil production at high speeds.
