KG Steel Turns to Primetals Technologies for PLTCM Upgrade
08/11/2026 - Primetals Technologies will modernize KG Steel Co.’s pickling line tandem cold mill (PLTCM) in Dangjin, Republic of Korea, the company announced.
The companies said the project includes upgrades of both basic and process automation systems including the SIMATIC S7-1500. This will expand KG Steel’s portfolio of cold-rolled products to include galvanized and tinplate along with precoated metal products under the XTONE brand.
The machine will have a renewed human-machine interface for better guidance and situational awareness. Other upgrades include virtualizing the servers and process optimization including an advanced pickling model, the companies said.
Primetals Technologies said it will connect the next system while the existing system is still in operation. The new setup will allow for easy integration of additional digital solutions in the future.
