Kuminex Steel Awards Metso With Compact-sized Pellet Plant Order

Metso said it will be its first modular compact-sized pellet plant. The scope of delivery includes the engineering and design of the plant, supply of proprietary equipment, instrumentation and control systems. Metso will also provide supervisory services and technical training.

“By leveraging Metso’s expertise, we aim to set new industry benchmarks for innovation and more sustainable practices, delivering high-quality pellets while minimizing our footprint. This partnership marks a significant step toward building a future-ready steel value chain,” said Sangamesh Desai, executive director at Kuminex.

The plant will have an estimated capacity of 1.5 million metric tons annually. It will be designed based on the principles of Metso’s larger product range and based on a 3 m-wide indurating machine.

Expected to have the same performance and product quality as Metso’s full-scale traveling grate pelletizing plants, it will also have VisioPelletTM and OptimusTM.

“We are proud to support Kuminex in expanding their value chain and driving growth. What makes this contract special for us is that it marks a major milestone for our first Compact-sized Pellet Plant in India, which is our innovative solution tailored for customers who need smaller capacity,” said Matthias Gabriel, director of ferrous at Metso.

Pellet production is expected to begin by mid-2027, the companies said.
