Malaysia Launches Investigation Into Imported Hot Rolled Coils
09/17/2015 - Malaysia has opened a safeguard investigation into imported hot rolled coils, the country’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry has announced.
The investigation follows a complaint from Megasteel Sdn. Bhd., the flat products arm of The Lion Group conglomerate. In the petition, the company contends that imports of foreign-made coils increased between 2012 and 2014, harming domestic producers.
Megasteel makes hot strip from hot briquetted iron, pig iron and scrap melted in a 160-ton electric arc furnace. It has a hot rolled coil capacity of 3.2 million metric tons per year.
