Metinvest Certified to Ship Rebars to Belarus

Metinvest has completed certification of reinforcing bars produced by its Makiivka Iron and Steel Works for the market of the Republic of Belarus based on the standards for this region.

Metinvest plans monthly sales of 2500 to 3000 tonnes of rebars beginning in March 2011. Certification will allow the company to grow its sales of long steel products to the Belarus market to 50,000 tonnes, which is a twofold increase of sales volumes for sections and shaped steel vs. last year.

The Experts Committee of the Institute for Construction Design of the President’s Administration of the Republic of Belarus valued Metinvest’s production technology for rebars, a product enjoying high demand in the Belarus market. The technology is based on the utilization of low carbon and low alloy steel, which improves reliability and safety for structures that use reinforcing bars.

Certification of the rebars will enable Metinvest-Ukraine, the wholesales channel of Metinvest Group, to simplify contracting procedures and reduce order lead times through the signature of a single contract for the whole product line. This approach supports the company’s client-oriented sales policy, which targets improving client service standards through deeper understanding and satisfying the specific needs of individual clients.

“It is extremely important to achieve the maximum quality of service through simplification and automation of the order processing,” noted Oleg Olshansky, General Director of Metinvest-Ukraine. “Production potential of Metinvest and the new account management principles will help us meet virtually any demand in steel products.”

Belarus is one of the most steel-intensive markets among CIS countries. Altogether, the CIS countries (less Russian Federation) received 159,300 tonnes of rolled steel in 2010. Belarus received 49,700 tonnes of rolled products, representing 31% in the CIS sales structure of Metinvest Group.

“This year we are planning to sell around 25,000 tonnes of rebars to Belorussian market,” said Dmitry Nikolayenko, Sales Director for Metinvest’s Steel and Rolled Products Division. “Including the plans to ship other long products, total volume of sections and shaped steel will increase to 50,000 tonnes.”
