Mittal Steel Poland Operating Upgraded Wire Rod Mill
04/29/2007 - Mittal Steel Poland is successfully operating its Danieli-upgraded double-strand wire rod mill in Sosnowiec, following the installation of a new walking beam furnace, high speed roughing mill, on line heat treatment, and coil-forming/coil finishing facilities.
Mittal Steel Poland has been successfully operating its Danieli-upgraded double-strand wire rod mill in Sosnowiec, which is located in the Katowice region.
The mill underwent a major modification aimed at increasing plant efficiency and enhancing product quality, as well as at extending the product mix to higher-value SBQ products in heavier coils.
Danieli expanded the plant with the installation of a 160-tonne/hour Danieli Centro Combustion walking beam furnace, 4-stand twist-free high-speed roughing mill, and new DSC heat treat lines. Installed downstream of the existing wire rod blocks, the DSC lines will provide on-line heat treatment of wire rod loops. Danieli also installed new coil-forming and -finishing facilities that are designed to take up to 3-tonne coils.
The product range is 5.5- to 21.0-mm diameter quality wire rod in 2.35-tonne coils in carbon and alloy steels for the automotive industry. Previously, the mill could only process 1-tonne coils.
The upgraded mill is designed for an overall capacity of 750,000 tonne/year, a 50% increase over the previous plant output rate.
