Changwon Specialty Steel, Ltd., South Korea, has placed an order with Morgan Construction Co. to revamp the wire rod outlet of the company’s existing combination mill.

Morgan’s scope of supply comprises the full supply of mechanical, electrical and fluid systems and equipment, including a reducing/sizing mill (RSM) with quick change feature. Morgan will also provide a water box, rollerized turndown, pinch roll, laying head, and Morgan’s Temperature Control System.

The revamp is designed to improve the quality and tolerance of the mill’s products to ± 0.1 mm for all size ranges from 5.5 to 16 mm. In the future, the company plans to roll product as large as 17.5 mm on the new upgraded mill. Once the revamp is complete, the mill’s output will be increased by 30,000 to 35,000 tons per year.

Installation of the new equipment is expected to be completed in May 2006.
