MSCI: Growth in Service Center Shipments Positive in November
12/26/2014 - Except for the continuing small decline in Canadian steel shipments, the growth in metals shipments was positive in November 2014 but at a slower pace than in October, the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) revealed.
U.S. Service Center Activity
In November 2014, U.S. service center steel shipments increased by 1.5% from November 2013. Steel product inventories increased 15.2% from November a year ago. At the current shipping rate, this represents an increase of 13.5% from a year ago.
U.S. service center shipments of aluminum products in November increased by 1.1% from the same month in 2013. Inventories of aluminum products increased 8.0% from November a year ago. At the current shipping rate, this represents an increase of 6.8% from a year ago.
Canadian Service Center Activity
In November 2014, Canadian service center shipments of steel products decreased by 4.9% from November 2013. Steel product inventories increased 26.6% from November a year ago. At the current shipping rate, this represents an increase of 33.1% from a year ago.
Canadian service center aluminum shipments in November increased 4.2% from the same month in 2013. Inventories of aluminum products increased 14.9% from November a year ago. At the current shipping rate, this represents an increase of 10.3% from a year ago.
