28 September 2004 - Northwest Pipe Co. has received a letter of intent from Colich & Sons of Los Angeles, Calif., for approximately $7 million of welded steel pipe for the Lancaster — Stage Five Recycled Water Transmission Pipeline, a project for the County Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles.

Steel Organizations Assert Support for Steel Import Monitoring System
27 September 2004 - Steel trade associations and the USWA, on behalf of their U.S. members, have submitted a joint comment to the Department of Commerce in response to the August 25th Federal Register notice regarding the continuation of the Steel Import Monitoring and Analysis (SIMA) system. Organizations participating in submission of comments included the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI); United Steelworkers of America (USWA); Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA); Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA); The Committee on Pipe and Tube Imports (CPTI); Steel Tube Institute of North America (STINA); and Cold Finished Steel Bar Institute (CFSBI).

24 September 2004 - Texas Industries, Inc. reported net income of $35.9 million ($1.51 per share) for the quarter ended August 31, 2004. The same quarter last year showed a loss of $15.7 million ($.74 per share).
AISI Says China Must Live up to Its WTO Obligations
24 September 2004 - China’s failure to comply with its WTO obligations is having a significantly adverse impact on U.S. manufacturers, according to Andrew G. Sharkey III, President and CEO of the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Testifying before the U.S. Trade Representatives Office, Sharkey stated that, “no issue is more important to their future than reversing this trend and making sure China lives up to its international obligations.”

Universal Stainless to Increase Bar Product Prices
23 September 2004 - Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. announced a 6% price increase effective on shipments scheduled for October 1, 2004 for all bar products including flats, hexagon and square bar products manufactured at its Bridgeville, Pa., and Dunkirk, N.Y., facilities.
Wheeling-Pittsburgh Closes Common Stock Offering
23 September 2004 - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Corp. recently closed its public offering of 3,650,000 shares of common stock, including 477,602 shares offered on behalf of certain selling shareholders, at a public offering price of $29.00 per share. The underwriters exercised their option to purchase 547,500 additional primary shares of common stock to cover over-allotments, which also closed on September 21, 2004.
