Nippon Steel Nisshin to Halt Blast Furnace
12/26/2019 - Nippon Steel Nisshin Co. Ltd. plans to bank a blast furnace in southern Japan next year, saying that a slowing market and other factors necessitated the move.
In a statement, Nippon Steel Nisshin said it will halt the No. 2 furnace at its Kure Works in mid-February and will shift production to the No. 1 furnace.
“The reason for this is that both blast furnaces were operating at a low utilization rate due to a fire accident at the Kure Works in August 2019, in addition to the deteriorating environment for steel demand,” the company said in a statement.
