Nippon Steel Selects Tenova to Supply Consteel® EAF
09/30/2026 - Tenova announced it will supply a Consteel® electric arc furnace (EAF) to Nippon Steel’s Hirohata plant in Himeji, Japan.
The furnace will be the second Consteel® EAF installed at Hirohata Works. It will have a heat size of 110 metric tons and produce high-grade special steels through electric steelmaking, the companies said.
“The project secures our co-operation with Nippon Steel, which began with the supply of the first Consteel® EAF in 2022, and with the recent signature of the contract for the 340-ton Consteel® EAF for Yawata works. It gives us the opportunity to face new challenges together, moving another step forward toward an innovative and sustainable steel industry,” said Mario Marcozzi, marketing and sales director at Tenova.
The new EAF will combine continuous scrap preheating with advanced automation systems to optimize energy consumption, melting performance and process stability.
Daido Steel Co. Ltd. acted as EPC contractor for the deal.
