NLMK Executive Honored for Development, Implementation of Automated System

The Russian Government has awarded a Government Science and Technology Award for 2008 to Alexander Gorshkov, Vice President of NLMK’s Iron Ore Division and Director General of Stoilensky GOK. The document was signed by Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister of Russia.

The award acknowledges Gorshkov’s contribution to development of an automated management system for “Karier” mining and transportation facilities, as well as his role in implementing the system at Russian mining companies.

The automated system that Gorshkov helped to develop allows hands-on management of pit operations, including optimized freight flows and managing the required level of useful elements content in the iron ore in warehouses. Implementation of high-tech resources helps to support various production tasks, including control over iron ore and other mineral resource mining volumes, and the efficient use of man-hours and equipment.

Born in 1961, Alexander Gorshkov graduated from the Novosibirsk Electrotechnical Institute in 1983 with a degree in “Design and production of radio equipment”. He held the position of General Director in Dolomit from 1999 to 2003, and was later appointed Deputy Director of Rumelco LLC, Lipetsk Branch (2003 to 2004) and General Director of Stoilensky GOK from 2004. Since June 2007 he has been Vice President at NLMK’s Iron Ore Division.
