NLMK Revamps High-Capacity Slab Caster
08/28/2009 - Novolipetsk Steel has commissioned its continuous casting machine (CCM-7), with a capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum, after revamping at the company’s Lipetsk production site.
NLMK (Novolipetsk Steel) has commissioned its continuous casting machine (CCM-7), with a capacity of 2 million tonnes per annum, after revamping at the company’s Lipetsk production site. The new facility will produce a wide range of slabs of various steel grades.
The upgrade extends the machine's process features and enables a capacity increase of 700,000 tonnes. Steel-casting speed can be increased by 30% to 1.6 meters/minute. CCM-7 design features are said to provide high-quality slab surfaces and internal structures, while reducing steel loss by 10%.
The new CCM is the fourth machine commissioned after revamping at the site. Total annual production capacity of all the CCMs is now about 11.7 million tonnes.
As part of NLMK's Technical Upgrade Program, the project has been implemented over 13 months in cooperation with Siemens VAI.
