NLMK Starts Maintenance Work on Lipetsk Blast Furnace

NLMK (Novolipetsk Steel Works) announced that it has started maintenance work on Blast Furnace No. 3 at its main production site in Lipetsk. The furnace has a production capacity about 1.3 million tonnes of pig iron per year.

The upgrade will include a complete change of refractory as well as a partial change of the furnace shell. With an estimated cost of USD 3.5 million, the project is to be completed in December 2008.

The company said the maintenance project would reduce its pig iron production volume by 170,000 tonnes, or roughly 2% of the total volumes planned for 2008.
