Nucor Brings New Melting Capacity On-Line
08/04/2025 - Nucor Corp. is ramping up production at its Lexington, N.C., USA, micro-mill after conducting the facility’s first continuous melt-cast-roll in early July, the steelmaker has said.
Announcing the facility’s start-up during its quarterly earnings call last week, Nucor said the rebar mill is designed to produce 430,000 tons annually. It is Nucor’s third micro-mil; the first two are in Frostproof, Fla., and Sedalia, Mo.
“We’re excited about what this mill is going to do. We’re excited about where it’s geographically located. We look for great things to come from them as they continue their start-up into Q3 and Q4,” Nucor chief executive officer Leon Topalian told analysts during the call.
It is but one of several significant capital investments Nucor has underway.
“We’re proud of the team that they've started their mill shop up,” Topalian said, adding that it represents an exciting opportunity for the company. “It’s geographically positioned incredibly well also in a market that’s growing and continues to grow.”
Meanwhile in Crawfordsville, Ind., USA, Nucor remains on schedule to complete the coating complex by the end of 2025 and the new galvanizing line at its Berkeley facility in Huger, S.C., by the middle of 2026.
“And the construction of our new West Virginia sheet mill is nearly 60% complete and remains on track for completion by the end of 2026,” Topalian said.
Nucor said it is on track to make approximately US$3 billion in capital expenditures for the year.
