OMZ-Special Steels has manufactured a unique support roll billet from a 360-tonne ingot for Hyundai Steel (South Korea). The billet is more than 10 meters in length and 2 meters in diameter.
The unique characteristics of the billet, according to OMZ, involve using a new steel grade with increased chrome concentration. The company says it developed the grade after conducting extensive research and engineering work, ensuring higher hardness on a specified depth along the surface length.
The technology allows use of differential heat treating without employing expensive equipment. The new differential heat-treating mode was developed by OMZ-Special Steels specialists using computer modeling specifically for the Hyundai Steel billet’s size.
The billet is expected to be shipped soon for final treating, to be performed by Kharkov-based Turboatom plant.
