A steam explosion at Essar Steel Algoma's steelworks in Sault Ste. Mario, Ont., Canada, in the early morning of 3 January 2013 did not affect operations, according to a report from Sootoday.com  Additionally, no injuries were reported.

A spokeswoman for the steelmaker told the local news website the company is "looking into the cause of the explosion and the necessary corrective actions will be taken to prevent a recurrence."

The spokeswoman confirmed the company was disposing of surplus iron at its Transwest facility when a steam explosion occurred and apologized for disruption that awakened local citizens.
