Outokumpu Announces Management Changes at Tornio Works
09/17/2009 - Outokumpu announces that Pekka Erkkilä will take over the management of Tornio Works in addition to his current duties as Executive Vice President for General Stainless.
Outokumpu announced that Executive Vice President for General Stainless and Executive Committee member Pekka Erkkilä will take over the management of Tornio Works in addition to his current duties. The change took affect September 15.
The company said that Antti Pihko, who was responsible for Tornio Works during the operationally challenging time from late 2005, will move by mutual agreement to manage the Kemi Mine.
Tornio Works, which is part of Outokumpu’s General Stainless division, includes steel and ferrochrome production in Tornio as well as a chrome mine in Kemi and a processing center in Terneuzen, the Netherlands. The Works had initiated a number of short-term measures late last year designed to cut costs and adjust to lower production volumes. Earlier this year, Tornio Works enacted temporary layoffs that affected some 1800 employees. As announced late last month, the temporary layoffs were to be ended by early October.
