Ovako Upgrades EAF With Spray-Cooled Roof
12/12/2018 - Swedish steelmaker Ovako has commissioned a new roof on the electric arc furnace at its Horfors plant, according to the equipment supplier on the project.
According to Systems Spray-Cooled, the unconventional cantilever-lift roof has been put into service and is performing well.
“Having been installed with an AMI-GE electrode regulation system, the more durable Spray-Cooled roof will allow for more energy input to the furnace, increasing steel production with less maintenance disruptions,” the company said in a statement.
“Under the contract, the new roof was engineered to integrate into their current furnace setup, as well as ‘future-proofed’ to integrate with planned furnace upgrades. To alleviate concerns about potential piping issues, the new piping was engineered using state of the art 3-D laser scans of the current furnace and surrounding mill to aid in design and overcome outdated drawings,” it added.
