Posco recently completed its Global R&D Center at the Songdo International City in Incheon. Construction for the R&D center started in June 2008.
Each of the six buildings in the center—the Research Building, Learning Center, Convention Center, Residence Hall, and two Testing Buildings—is comprised of one underground level and 15 floors above.
The Global R&D Center will go beyond conventional steel-related research, according to Posco, and incorporate EVI (Early Vendor Involvement) from the initial development stages of every product.
To pursue the development of next-generation technology, Posco plans to strengthen its ties with POSTECH, Pohang Research Institute of Industrial Science and Technology (RIST), as well as co-ops with corporations and universities in Korea and abroad.
More than 200 people attended the completion ceremony, including National Assembly member Hak-Yong Shin, Incheon Municipal Assembly vice-chairman Jae-Ho Lee, Incheon’s Yeonsu-gu Office Chairman Nam-Seok Ko, CEO Joon-Yang Chung, President Jong-Tae Choi, and other leaders of the Incheon region, Posco, and its affiliates.
