Posco’s Rio de Janerio office recently hosted 20 Korean students and teachers for a visit to the KOBRASCO site in Vitoria, Esprito Santos province.
KOBRASCO, a 50/50 joint venture founded in 1996 between Posco and iron ore supplier Vale, sponsored the visit as part of Posco’s efforts to promote communication with the Korean community and to promote its corporate brand in Brazil. The event included visits and tours to pellet plants, ports and steel manufacturing facilities.
Teachers and 9th grade students at the Korean International School in Sao Paulo were invited to tour Tubarao, the world’s largest pelletizing complex, sponsored by KOBRASCO, as well as Vale museums for two days.
“It was a good opportunity to learn about Korean companies’ business activities in Brazil, which I wasn’t very familiar with,” said a student. “I was very proud to see Korean companies working and competing with leading firms in Brazil.”
Founded in 1998, the Korean International School in Sao Paulo provides education for 210 students from kindergarten to 9th grade. Posco has sponsored the school through scholarships since 2010.
“We thank Posco for this wonderful opportunity to feel proud about Korea. We are committed to developing talents through education and contribute to corporate activities,” said Choi Sun-kyu, Principal of Sao Paulo International School.
The Posco Rio de Janeiro office, which has been active in promoting social corporate responsibility activities in Brazil since 2010, has recently been focusing on expanding communication with the local community in response to growing investment activities of the Posco group.
