Posco Launches Global e-Procurement System in Vietnam

Posco recently started operation of its first global e-procurement system outside Korea. The new system will enable Posco-Vietnam to share and process all the information related to bidding, signing contracts, ordering, and supplying on a real-time basis.

The new system—realized with the launch of other key facilities such as ERP Global Single Instance—will be used at Posco’s other overseas production centers, including Posco-Mexico, Posco-VST, and Zhangjiagang Pohang Stainless Steel, to enable the steelmaker’s integrated global purchase order system.

The integrated global system is expected to enhance productivity by integrating overseas purchasing procedures and ensuring the timely purchase of high-quality materials at reasonable prices, as well as sharing related information among them.

Posco expects the electric bidding process in the system to make the entire purchasing process more transparent and efficient. The use of electric data will minimize human involvement in all the related procedures, such as posting a notice, sending an estimate, selecting a successful bidder, and searching related information.

Sourcing includes controlling information about products and their producers, as well as security controls through VeriSign SSL Certificates. The transaction part covers follow-ups of the bidding procedures, including purchase deals, ordering and providing information on supply, payment, and storage.

Posco-Vietnam offered three training sessions to its purchase department employees, who then helped the companies’ more than 100 business partners in two different training sessions.
