POSCO to Build a Digital Twin to Test Hydrogen Technologies
03/02/2022 - The South Korean steelmaker is planning to build a virtual steel mill in which it can test hydrogen reduction steelmaking technology, according to BusinessKorea.
The news outlet said yesterday POSCO has recently created a task force to develop steel metaverse solutions.
The company plans to develop hydrogen reduction steelmaking technology by 2040 and switch to hydrogen-based steelmaking by 2050. POSCO estimates that the cost of developing this technology will be between 30 trillion and 40 trillion won. A digital twin will reduce the company’s cost and risk burden in implementing the technology.
