Posco to Build Stainless Cold Rolling Mill in Turkey
12/27/2010 - Posco’s Board of Directors has approved the construction of a 200,000 tonnes/year stainless cold rolling mill in Turkey.
Posco announced that its Board of Directors decided in its December 17 meeting to build a stainless cold rolling mill in Turkey.
The new cold mill, which will have an annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes, is to be built within the Izmit industrial complex near Istanbul. Posco’s Pohang Steelworks will supply the new cold mill in Turkey with the stainless hot-rolled steel plates necessary for production.
Posco anticipates the new stainless cold rolling mill will handle demand from Turkey’s domestic market, as well as demand from the Middle-East and Eastern Europe Regions. The company expects the new facility will help it to gain a lead in Turkey’s domestic stainless market, which currently is entirely dependent on imports. The company also intends to utilize Turkey’s geographic advantage to take on the demands from surrounding areas including the Middle-East, Eastern Europe, and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States) regions.
Posco intends to start construction on the new stainless cold rolling mill in 2011 with completion scheduled for 2013.
