Primetals Awarded Contract for Caster Modernization
03/08/2016 - Italian steelmaker Acciaierie Valbruna S.p.a. plans to modernize the three-strand continuous billet caster at its Bolzano plant, according to the vendor on the project.
According to Primetals Technologies, the caster’s radius will be increased from 7 to 9 meters, allowing for production of stainless and special alloy bars with larger cross-sections – up to 180 mm. The work will take place during the annual summer outage, Primetals said.
The Bolzano facility specializes in stainless and special alloy rods with round and hexagonal cross-sections. Primetals said later projects eventually will allow the caster to make billets with cross-sections of up to 200 mm.
