Primetals Technologies Completes EAF Upgrade
04/30/2025 - Baku Steel Company CJSC group presented Primetals Technologies with the final acceptance certificate (FAC) for the upgrade of its 60-metric-ton electric arc furnace (EAF) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Primetals Technologies said the upgrade included a burner system with carbon injection technology, the Melt Expert electrode control system, SlagMon tapping equipment for optimized slag detection, and advisory services for installation and commissioning.
Once in operation, BSC reported multiple improvements to their machine including a more than 20% reduction in electrode consumption and a 4-minute reduction in power-on times.
The company estimates it has an annual production capacity of 800,000 metric tons. It manufactures billets, pipes, and construction rebars from carbon and alloy steel. It also produces standard and shaped rolled products including channels, angles, I-beams, wire rod and shaped casts.
BSC exports its products to more than 20 countries across Europe, the U.S., Africa and Asia.
