Primetals Technologies Completes Installation of TrimRob for Hyundai Steel
07/17/2026 - Primetals Technologies announced it has brought its TrimRob robotic coil trimming and sampling system on-line at Hyundai Steel’s wire rod mill in Dangjin, Korea.
The company said TrimRob has a vision system and trimming-end effector tool. The vision system can count rings, recognize tangles and overlaps, and use logic to trim and sample. This is in lieu of the usual two to four operators it takes per shift to do the same job in the dangerous environment.
“Leveraging robots is critical to the steel industry. With TrimRob, Hyundai Steel is able to significantly reduce repetitive strain injuries while moving operators to higher-value work,” said Ravindra Goyal, head of process for Primetals Technologies USA.
The robot can handle wire rod up to 20 mm diameter in various grades and strengths. In tests, it consistently cut at least the required amount for wire sizes from 5.5 to 20 mm, the companies said.
The TrimRob technology was created in collaboration with Polytec.
