Primetals Technologies Delivers 20-High Silicon Steel Mill to LY Steel
10/07/2025 - LY Steel has successfully rolled its first coil of high-quality silicon steel on Primetals Technologies’ split-type 20-high HZ mill in Loudi, China.
Primetals Technologies said it supplied engineering, mechanical equipment and commissioning services for the project.
The HZ mill supports stable, large-scale production of ultrathin, high-grade silicon steel. The new line will allow LY Steel to produce and develop high magnetic induction grain-oriented and high-grade nongrain-oriented silicon steel. LY Steel said it will be used for new energy applications.
The HZ mill is a split-housing ZR mill developed by Primetals Technolgies featuring a large gap opening, flexible roll diameter configurations and a double AS-U shape control system. The work rolls can be used throughout almost the entire range without being limited by intermediate roll diameters.
