Primetals Technologies Opens Heat-Transfer Test Facility
12/15/2025 - Primetals Technologies announced it has opened a new heat-transfer test facility in Linz, Austria, to advance optimization of industrial cooling systems.
The purpose of the test facility is to optimize new continuous casters, existing machines and other systems that use industrial cooling, the company said.
The test facility can reproduce industrial cooling scenarios. A measuring plate with temperature probes can test at any angle to monitor the cooling effect. Speeds of the tests can vary; the equipment can be rotated to simulate any cooling condition while the nozzle can be adjusted. Caster rolls can be used to simulate actual casting conditions.
The project is supported by the COMET-K2 Center “Center for Symbiotic Mechatronics” of the Linz Center of Mechatronics. It is funded by the Austrian federal government and the federal state of Upper Austria.
