Primetals Technologies Tapped for Nucor Steel–Berkeley Galvanizing Line
03/29/2023 - Nucor Corp. has selected Primetals Technologies to supply a 500,000-ton-capacity galvanizing line at its sheet mill in Huger, S.C., USA, the equipment supplier announced today.
With the first coil scheduled for mid-2025, the new automotive-grade continuous galvanizing line (CGL) will be one of the most advanced in the Western Hemisphere, Primetals Technologies said in a press release.
“The new line will increase the company’s galvanized production capacity and enable this location to produce advanced high-strength steel (AHSS) and other automotive products,” the company said. The new CGL is intended to support Nucor’s strategy to shift its product mix to higher-margin value-added items, Primetals Technologies added.
The scope of supply includes engineering and the supply of a vertical galvanizing furnace with galvanneal capability, after-pot cooling, quench technology, as well as a complete automation package.
