Primetals Technologies to Provide Process Automation Solution

The digitalization project will include installing comprehensive level 2 process automation systems at the meltshop and casting areas. In the meltshop, this includes four ladle furnaces, two vacuum degassers, two energy optimization furnaces and two 3-strand bloom casters. The new systems will allow for autonomous operation, minimizing manual operator input and stabilizing the production process, the company said.

The operator guidance feature is based on standard production processes and calculations of all process steps. This includes cyclic online calculation of key process parameters such as steel grade, slag composition and temperature.

The special alloy steel plant has a capacity of about 1 million metric tons annually and offers over 850 specialty steel grades for bar and wire rods.

JSW Steel said it expects the upgrades to increase production consistency, improve product quality, enhance operational efficiency and reduce production-related costs.
