Primetals Technologies to Supply Arvedi ESP Line to Shanxi Jingang New Materials Technology

Primetals Technologies said the scope of supply includes a complete electrics package, level 1 and 2 automation, and an extensive digital solution. The Arvedi ESP technology has an estimated zero CO2 emissions due to the use of energy from renewable resources.

“This will enable superior, profit-oriented production of eHRC — a product that can partially replace cold-rolled coil and be used directly in end products,” said Andreas Viehboeck, executive vice president and head of global business unit upstream at Primetals Technologies.

The new plant will produce strip gauges from 0.7 to 12.7 mm with an estimated capacity of 2.6 million metric tons annually. It will feature four high-reduction and five finishing mill stands. The line will focus on advanced steel grades including electrical steels, deep-drawing steels and grades for hot forming.

For production of advanced steel grades, it will have a split-core electromagnetic brake, an advanced antibulging caster roll design with secondary cooling and a primary descaler before the roughing stands. Other key features include a vertical edger solution, downcoiler pinch roll, an in-line submerged-entry nozzle exchange system and an in-line work roll change system in the last three finishing stands.

Digitalization features will include the asset life expert condition monitoring assistant, the thought-process quality control system and the ESP scheduler.

Primetals Technologies and Shanxi Jingang said they will also partner to develop more advanced steel grades including electrical steels with silicon content over 3.2% and ultralow-carbon steel like DC04. These grades tend to be used in automotive and appliance manufacturing.

Primetals Technologies said it has committed to an accelerated project schedule, with first coil scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.
