Primetals Technologies to Upgrade Pickling and Tandem Cold Mill Automation for voestalpine
01/08/2026 - Primetals Technologies announced it will upgrade the software of voestalpine stahl’s BETA 2 pickling line and tandem cold mill in Linz, Austria.
The company said the software upgrade will be implemented across the level 1 and 2 process control systems at the mill. The project includes upgrading to the latest Siemens PCS7 version, integrating third-party packages into a PCS7 project and transferring the process automation system to Windows and Oracle.
The BETA 2 line produces steel for the automotive, household appliance and construction industries, and electrical steel. All automation engineering systems will be integrated into voestalpine’s virtualization environment to streamline operations and maintenance for staff that work on multiple lines, the company said.
This project is in addition to multiple other projects the companies are collaborating on.
The companies said commissioning is scheduled for mid-2026.
