PSI to Supply PSImetals Modules for VIZAG Steel

PSI has been contracted by SMS Siemag to provide PSImetals planning modules for the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VIZAG Steel), which is currently under construction in India.
PSI’s planning modules will be integrated into the Level 3 solution to be provided by SMS Siemag. The planning system will control the processes from desulphurization through the converter, secondary metallurgy and continuous casting plants with the aim of optimizing throughput.
In 2007, India was the fifth largest steel producer in the world. The Indian government plans to double steel capacity to about 110 million tons by 2020.
The Visakhapatnam (VIZAG Steel) steel plant, which belongs to the Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd., will have expanded its annual capacity from the current 3 million tonnes to 6.3 million tons by the end of 2011 with the addition of its second steel mill.
