PT Krakatau Posco Honored for Outstanding CSR Activities
10/18/2011 - PT Krakatau Posco was recently honored for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility activities and future plans during the 1st Korea-Indonesia CSF Forum at the Korean embassy in Indonesia.
PT Krakatau Posco was recently honored for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and future plans during the 1st Korea-Indonesia CSF Forum at the Korean embassy in Indonesia. President Kim Dong-ho was invited to speak at the ceremony on behalf of Posco.
The 1st Korea-Indonesia CSF Forum was a lively event attended by some 100 guests including Korean Ambassador to Indonesia Kim Young-sun, Chairman Sung Eun-ho of the Korean Association in Indonesia, Korindo, Chairman Gotta of the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board. Twelve finalists were chosen including Korindo, Miwon Indonesia and Samik Musical Instruments.
Since its foundation on Aug. 26 last year, PT Krakatau Posco has carried out various CSR activities based on close cooperation with Posco Headquarters, putting together and delivering emergency relief kits for disaster-stricken regions (August 2008 and June 2009), donating 700 books to 10 libraries in Cilegon (April 2011) and blood transfusion devices (May 2011), blood donation (June 2011) and house building activities with a university student volunteering mission (January 2011), supporting orphanage and juvenile delinquents during the Ramadan (fasting period in August 2011), planning mangrove trees to prevent coast erosion (June/September 2011).
Ambassador Kim attended earlier events, including the emergency kit making event and the opening of the Global Growing Center for SME support. Families of Posco employees and SME suppliers also participated in various events.
PT Krakatau Posco is planning to employ 70% of its local high-school graduate workforce to build close cooperative ties with the local community. Other plans for CSR initiatives include financial support for women employers of start-up businesses, which will be conducted via MOU with Sookmyung Women’s University and KOICA, to be signed next month. PT Krakatau Posco is also pursuing sisterhood relationships with villages near the steel mill.
