In a continued effort to further improve operational efficiency, Rautaruukki is announcing plans to integrate production in Kalajoki, Finland.
In Kalajoki, Ruukki currently operates two plants that serve construction and the engineering industry. The company makes beams for commercial and industrial buildings at one of the plants, and makes components for engineering customers in the energy and offshore industries at the other.
Ruukki said it will initiate employer-employee negotiations at Kalajoki, where a total of around 140 people are employed. Negotiations will apply to all Ruukki Construction's workers in Kalajoki.
Following the integration, which is expected to result in the loss of a maximum of 35 jobs, both plants will manufacture components for the engineering industry. Work to implement the change is expected to be completed by the end of May.
Rautaruukki supplies metal-based components, systems and integrated systems to the construction and engineering industries, offering a wide selection of metal products and services. Rautaruukki has operations in 26 countries, employs 14,300 people, and reported net sales of EUR 3.9 billion in 2008. The corporation uses the marketing name Ruukki.
