SAIL Issues Final Acceptance on Plate Q&T Line
05/20/2020 - Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL), the world’s 20th largest steelmaker, has issued the final acceptance certificate on a new roller hearth plate quench and temper line to CAN-ENG Furnaces International Ltd.
The line, which was installed at SAIL's Rourkela Steel Plant in Odisha, India, is designed to heat treat plates ranging from 6 mm to 100 mm  thick, in widths up to 3,000 mm, and in lengths up to 13,000 mm. The line replaces a Soviet-era oil quench system,
The line has an overall line length of 122 m with a restrained roller spray quench at the heart of the system. Coke oven gas powers the auto-recuperative radiant tube–fired atmosphere roller hearth hardening furnace and direct-fired temper furnace.
The line’s operations are controlled via CAN-ENG’s level 2 automation technology. It also incorporates a dual hot redundant programmable logic controller system.
