SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant Achieves Second Year of Record Performances With Danieli Plate Mill
05/27/2026 - Danieli announced the plate mill it supplied to SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant in India has surpassed its estimated annual production capacity for the second year in a row.
The companies said that while the 4.3-m-wide plate mill was designed to roll 920,000 metric tons of plate products annually, it has surpassed this by achieving 993,000 metric tons. This is the second year in a row it has exceeded the estimated production capacity.
Other milestones included a single-day rolling record over 5,100 metric tons of plates, over 380 slabs per day slab rolling and a record shift tonnage over 1,800 metric tons.
The plate mill produces products including API pipeline steels, shipbuilding plates and special grades for engineering including defense applications, the company said.
