According to Salzgitter, differentiated dimensions and grades will be available before the year is over. 

“The Salzgitter Group is a pioneer in the production of low-CO₂ steel. We are demonstrating this yet again by setting up our production route of green steel via the Peine mini-mill and the rolling process in Salzgitter,” said Salzgitter chief executive Heinz Jörg Fuhrmann. 

“A large number of customers consider it important to take delivery of a real, physical, reduced-CO₂ product now rather than being satisfied with more or less theoretical CO₂ footprint projections. Furthermore, together with our partners, we are intensively working on switching steel production to a low-CO₂, hydrogen-based process through our SALCOS – Salzgitter Low-CO₂ Steelmaking innovation project, which will enable a reduction in CO₂ of up to 95%,” he added.
