Salzgitter Awarded Contracts for Two Line Pipe Projects From ONTRAS
03/03/2026 - Two member companies of Salzgitter Group, Mannesmann Grossrohr GmbH (MGR) and Mannesmann Line Pipe GmbH (MLP), have been awarded contracts from ONTRAS Gastransport GmbH for line pipes as part of the Green Octopus Mitteldeutschland IPCEI project.
The companies said the H2 line pipes from MGR will cover 70.6 km, running from Wefensleben to Salzgitter. The H2 line pipes from MLP will cover 38.2 km and run from Angersdorf on to Preußlitz.
“We are proud to be part of this important project and that hydrogen for SALCOS® will flow through line pipes from the Salzgitter Group,” said Andreas Betzler, general manager of the two Salzgitter companies.
MGR’s line pipes will have a diameter of 813 mm, coated with a three-layer polyethylene topcoat and the interior with epoxy Flowcoat. About 4.5 km of them will be given GRP coating from specialist company TDC. They will be 18 m long and weigh about 4.5 metric tons.
The companies said the line pipes will be delivered by truck to pipe storage sites beginning in February 2027.
MLP’s line pipes will have a 610 mm diameter with a three-layer polyethylene coating and an interior Flowcoat coating. They will also be 18 m long. 6 km of them will be given GRP coating, also from TDC.
