Severstal Re-Commissions Cherepovets Hot Dip Galvanizing Line
12/07/2010 - Severstal’s Cherepovets Steel Mill celebrated this week the start-up of its renovated hot dip galvanizing line, which is designed to eventually produce 400,000 tonnes of galvanized metal per year – twice the annual capacity of the previous line.
Severstal’s Cherepovets Steel Mill celebrated this week the start-up of its renovated hot dip galvanizing line with an official commissioning ceremony.
“We are planning the new line to eventually produce 400 thousand tonnes of galvanized metal per annum, twice as much as did the old one,” commented Alexander Grubman, General Director of Severstal’s Cherepovets Steel Mill.
The new line includes a horizontal annealing furnace supplied by Thermline, galvanizing plant supplied by Foen, and temper mill supplied by VAI Clecim, as well as main production equipment supplied by CMI. The renovated line also features a strip bending and stretching machine as well as an electrostatic strip-oiling apparatus that makes the line fundamentally different from its predecessor. The additional equipment will help enable the production of high-quality galvanized rolled metal products tailored to suit customer requirements and preferences.
“This is a real contribution of our company to the development of civil and residential construction, including low-rise housing construction,” said Grubman. “In addition the products that come off this line will be delivered as blooms to color coating lines.
“The second color coating line, where equipment is currently being installed, is slated for commissioning in 2011,” added Grubman. “We believe this will help fully meet the requirements of the Olympic construction in Sochi, and also new facilities for the 2018 World Cup.”
Renovation of the Cherepovets HDG line, which began on December 1, 2009, was carried out as part of the investment project currently underway to increase the plant’s production of rolled metal products for the building industry. In 2010, investments aimed at expanding the range of products and increasing production for the construction industry will make up 3,625 million rubles, 800 million rubles more than last year.
The commissioning ceremony for the renovated line was attended by Vologda Oblast Vice-Governor, Nikolai Kostygov, Cherepovets’ Mayor Oleg Kuvshinnikov, Chief Executive Officer of Severstal Russian Steel Division and General Director of Cherepovets Steel Mill Alexander Grubman.
