Severstal to Supply Rolled Metal Products to New Automotive Standards

The Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant—part of the steel segment of the Severstal Russian Steel Division—will start deliveries of GMW (General Motors Worldwide) standard rolled metal products for General Motors.

The initial trial batch of 200 tonnes of galvanized and cold-rolled mill products grades CR2, CR3, and CR4 (GMW2 standard) will be delivered to ZАО GM Uzbekistan. The consignment will be used for stamping test components, including internal panels of doors, hoods, and roofs. Following the approvals procedure and all necessary tests, new steel grades are expected to be used for the manufacture of a new MATIZ М 300 model.

Severstal notes that management of the Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant is considering expanding its GMW standard product line. In addition to galvanized rolled stock, cold-rolled carbon and high-resistance, galvanized two-phase grades will be shipped to GM Uzbekistan. The range of new grades depends on the auto plant’s needs; most have already been produced on a test basis, the company says.

GMW standard rolled metal products will be delivered to all GM divisions.
