Shaoguan Starts up Danieli Plate Mill

Shaoguan, P.R. China, recently rolled the first slabs on its new Danieli plate rolling mill.

The new plate rolling mill features a reheat furnace, slab descaler, 4-high single-stand reversing mill, laminar cooling, hot leveler and shears. It is designed for a target capacity of 1 million tonnes per year of hot-rolled plates starting from 150-mm thick slabs, 1500 to 3250 mm wide with a maximum slab weight of approximately 60 tonnes. The plate mill will be used to produce steel grades ranging from structural carbon steels to low alloy, pipeline and shipbuilding steels.

After the first successful rolling in automatic mode, the site team proceeded with the remaining commissioning activities in preparation for the official hot test start date, with an expected production rate of approximately 30 to 40 slabs per day in the first period.

Danieli credits the teamwork of both Danieli and Shaoguan Project Teams for the new plate rolling mill’s on-schedule start-up.
