Siemens to Modernize Cold Rolling Stand for Alunorf

Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from Aluminium Norf GmbH (Alunorf), Neuss, to modernize it Cold Rolling Stand No. 4.

Alunorf is modernizing its four-high Cold Rolling Stand No. 4 within the framework of continuous investment in its production facilities. Originally commissioned in 1987, this part of Alunorf’s plant was also fitted with electrical and automation equipment from Siemens. After modernization of the technological controls, the operator control system and the drive controllers, the plant will be in line with the latest state-of-the-art, the aim being to improve product quality and increase productivity. The rolling stand will be equipped based on Siemens’ "Siroll ALU CMA" concept for aluminum cold rolling mills.

Alunorf also intends to refurbish the mechanical equipment, including the use of a new cooling beam for selective roll cooling and inductive edge heating. Both upgrades serve to improve strip flatness control.

Siemens’ scope of supply comprises the basic automation, including the technological controls, as well as the process automation system, power units for the drives, and the digital drive controllers. Siemens is also responsible for all installation work and commissioning.

Modification will start as early as 2008 and will be completed in December 2009.
