Siemens to Provide Equipment for Alchevsk Long Product Rolling Mill Ugrade

Siemens Metals Technologies has received an order from OJSC Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works (AMK) in the Ukraine to supply new equipment for the company's long product rolling mill.
 
Siemens’ scope of supply for the project includes all mechanical and electrical equipment as well as the basic and process automation systems. The mechanical equipment supply will include eleven Red Ring stands, two of which are universal stands, as well as ten abrasive disk saws, a bar profile monitoring system, bar marking machines and the transfer system. In addition to its responsibility for the first filling of the new rolls, Siemens will also supply the equipment for stacking, bundling and weighing, as well as the systems for accessory fluids, operational change stands and cartridges, and spare parts.
 
The electrical equipment Siemens will provide includes medium- to low-voltage transformers, and special cables to the basic and process automation systems. Siemens will also provide advisory services for erection and commissioning of the rolling mill.
 
Alchevsk Iron and Steel’s goals for the project, which is scheduled for completion at the middle of 2009, include expansion of its range of products, improved production and process quality, and the reduction of environmental pollution. The upgrade, which has a volume of over 30 million euros, is part of a comprehensive expansion and modernization program that will expand the company’s total annual steel production capacity from 3.4 to 7.6 million tonnes.
 
In the course of this renewal of Alchevsk Iron and Steel Works' production facilities, Siemens Metals Technologies has already supplied two new converters (including dedusting and desulphurization systems) as well as two twin-strand slab casters, a ladle furnace, and vacuum degassing.
