Siemens to Supply Slab Caster for Tiantie Hot Rolling Mill
08/07/2007 - Siemens Metals Technologies will supply engineering, key equipment, and technological packages for a twin-strand slab caster to be built at Tiantie Hot Rolling Mill’s facility in the Hebei Province.
Siemens Metals Technologies recently received an order from Minmetals Steel Co. Ltd., Beijing, for the engineering and supply of key equipment and technological packages for a 2-strand slab caster to be built at Tiantie Hot Rolling Mill Co. Ltd, Shexian, Hebei Province, China.
Tiantie Hot Rolling Mill, a subsidiary company of Tianjin Tiantie Metallurgical Group, currently casts and rolls approximately two million tonnes of steel per year. Tiantie will install the new caster as part of a production-expansion project that will increase this plant’s annual casting and rolling capacity to four million tonnes of steel.
Siemens will provide the engineering, mechanical equipment, and technological packages for a two-strand slab caster which will be capable of casting two million tonnes of carbon, including micro-alloyed steel grades, per year. Slabs will be cast at thicknesses of 210 and 230 mm and at widths ranging from 900 to 1,650 mm.
Technological packages, which will ensure reliable casting operations, a high degree of operational flexibility, and the casting of high-quality slabs, will include:
Technological packages, which will ensure reliable casting operations, a high degree of operational flexibility, and the casting of high-quality slabs, will include:
- SmartMold, a specially designed cassette-type mold that allows quick exchange of the copper plates
- DynaWidth, providing online mold-width adjustments for fast slab-width changes
- MoldExpert, an online automatic system for breakout prediction and strand-shell friction monitoring
- DynaFlex mold oscillator, which provides flexible adjustment of the oscillation parameters.
The new caster’s segmented strand-guide system will include one bender, two straighteners, and six horizontal SmartSegments with DynaGap SoftReduction, a fully automatic roll-gap control system that facilitates dynamic soft reduction for minimized centerline segregation and improved internal strand quality. Siemens will also install I-STAR Rollers (intermediately supported strand-guide rollers for improved strand-shell support and product quality), Level 2 Dynacs secondary-cooling, and the VAI-Q Slab quality-control system.
The project also foresees advisory assistance during slab-caster manufacturing, erection, start-up, and commissioning.
