SMS Company Tapped to Upgrade HDGL Line at Alabama Plant
07/01/2016 - SMS group’s Drever International has won a contract for upgrades to a steel finishing plant in Alabama, the company has announced.
Drever will be retrofitting a furnace on the No. 3 hot-dipped galvanizing line at AM/NS Calvert LLC, an ArcelorMittal-Nippon Steel & Sumitomo Metal Corp.joint venture, allowing it to process the latest generation of advanced high-strength steels.
SMS said the project will allow the plant to employ the quench and partitioning process, a two-step thermal treatment.
To that end, Drever will additional seal roll assemblies, new deflector roll boxes, induction heaters, a partitioning section, a final cooling section and an exit section with a hot bridle.
The equipment is to be commissioned by the end of 2016.
