Walsin Lihwa Corp. has placed an order with SMS Concast for the revamp of its existing electric arc furnace in Yen Shui, Taiwan, for the production of stainless steel.
The company said it is carrying out the upgrade, in which the furnace will be completely converted for the production of the stainless steel product range, in response to the changed market situation, the furnace. The AC furnace, which has a tapping weight of 65 tonnes of liquid steel, was initially used for the production of carbon steels and high-grade stainless chromium steel.
The furnace shell’s original design featured eccentric bottom tapping, which will not meet the requirements of new quality-steel production, will now be equipped with a conventional tapping spout. The furnace platform will also be renewed, and the top section of the furnace will be equipped with more efficient wall-cooling elements. The furnace roof and the lifting system will likewise be modified accordingly.
