SMS Demag Commissions X-Cast Slab Caster at Amurmetal
10/27/2008 - SMS Demag puts an X-Cast single-strand continuous slab caster into operation for Amurmetal, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia.
SMS Demag has successfully put into operation an X-Cast® single-strand continuous slab caster for Amurmetal, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia.
The slab caster is designed for slabs in the gages 150, 200 and 250 mm and widths between 1000 and 1900 mm. The caster is designed for an annual capacity of one million tonnes of steel slabs.
SMS Demag’s supply scope for the project comprised supply of mechanical equipment, supervision of erection and commissioning, and training of the operating personnel. SMS Demag also supplied the complete X-Pact® electrical and automation package, including power supply and drives (Level 0), plus basic automation
(Level 1), metallurgical process models (Level 2), and the production planning system (Level 3).
Amurmetal uses several continuous casters to produce long and flat products, with a large proportion of its products exported to South-East Asia. Komsomolsk-on-Amur is an important industrial center for ferrous metallurgy, machine construction, oil refining, shipbuilding and aeronautical engineering.
